Repentance Project

There are a lot of words that have come to mean different things over time. In Christianity, the ideas of forgiveness (which in Hebrew meant letting go) and repent are two of them.

To repent requires a physical turning away from one thing and towards another. This space will be one where we turn away from the divisions and boxes that society and culture has drawn around us. We will turn away from those boxes and towards the beauty that a truly diverse community can be.

In order to facilitate this process, we will begin by honestly, vulnerably, and transparently taking a look at the relationship between Christianity and slavery and the Episcopal Church and racism.

We firmly believe that you if you don’t know how you got to where you are, you don’t really know where you are. We also believe that it is time for the Church to take an honest look at how we got to where we are and what our role is in creating and causing the divisions that still separate us today.

Here at Brave Space, we will partner with the Center for Reconciliation in order to do this work, this work of showing how we got here, then an honest look at where we are, and then together as a community, we can figure our where we want to go and how to get there.

Stay tuned. We start soon.
